The Hunnenstein in Niederdossenbach, Baden-Württemberg, just above
Schwörstadt is either a precessional correction for Canis Major or
marks another star of Canis Major.
I think it is precessional, but note the other alternative to show
it has been considered.

The Red Goddess is not all that can be found at Traben-Trarbach and
the Moselle [Mosel] River. We have discovered that the very steep
Hunsrück side of the river from Litziger Ley in Traben-Trarbach to
almost the village of Enkirch, seems to have large rock drawings
hewn out of the side of the cliffs which depict large birds of
various kinds. Many of these land parcels are today used to grow
wine. Of course, vineyard parcels hewn out of this rugged terrain
would expectedly be irregular, conforming to the lay of the land.
But we do not think they would have these shapes, although we may be
wrong. We find that dozens of birds were carved into the cliffs long
ago and that many of these are being used now as vineyard parcels,
but not all of them. Still this is very speculative for now.

This is the town in which I currently live - Traben-Trarbach on Mont
Royal, "the Royal Mountain". I used to think there was nothing
special here.

Die Röte Göttin [Red Goddess] was found a number of years ago by
Helmut Wendhut, since deceased, on the Mont Royal plateau
overlooking Rissbach, a part of Traben-Trarbach.

The reddish-orange color of the megalith indicates that it marks a
reddish-orange star, which I first took to be Dubhe in Ursa Major,
also a reddish-orange star, the only one in Ursa Major - the rest
are whitish.

However, renewed analysis showed it to be the bright orange star
gamma- Leonis somewhat below Dubhe at the forehead of Leo (called
Al jeb-bah "the forehead" of Leo to the Arabs according to Richard
Hinckley Allen).

stromberg2.gif

Schindeldorf in Stromberg, Hunsrück is not only the site of the golf
course upon which I play golf, but – in an ironic twist of fate – it
is also the location of Cancer in the ancient Germanic astronomical
survey. Without golf, this site would be an unknown.

Indeed, Schindeldorf – which means "shingle [ceiling] village"
probably for the roof-shape of Cancer, has no fewer than 18
Hügelgräber, i.e. Dolmens or Cairns, some of which are freely
visible in the rough or trees next to the fairways – and from which
one has a free drop if the golf ball happens to find its way into
them. In addition there are several free-standing megaliths on the
golf course.

As Otto Huth relates, Stromberg is sometimes rendered in literature
as the mythical Glasberg, which is the highest of the cosmological
mountains being directly under the Pole Star at the center of the
heavens.

This of course fits Cancer, for the line from the center of Cancer
passes through the reddish-yellow star alpha in Ursa Major (all the
other major stars in Ursa Major are whitish) to the Pole Star
position.

Since there is no bright star at that pole star point, the ancients
used the star alpha on the Big Dipper instead. When the song "Follow
the Drinking Gourd" was sung by fleeing slaves in America prior to
the Civil War, it was the star alpha on the Big Dipper which which
was intended to be followed – it always points north.

Stromberg marks Cancer as the mountain "roof" below that star.

felsmeer1.gif

The Felsenmeer [Sea of Stones] on the Felsberg [cliff mountain] is
located on the Bergstrasse in the Odenwald forest in Germany. It is
a site of thousands of giant stones. In the German geodetic survey
these stones represent the bottom of the "well" of Gemini. Although
the natural origin of the stones on that hill is clear, the
geologists allege that all the loose stones are natural in the heaps
in which they are found, whereas we claim that the
selective "heaping" of these stones occurred as the ancients
purposefully rolled them down that hill to form heaped shapes
marking the heavens (these heaped stones are shown as dark areas in
felsmeer1.gif).

The stone groups shown on the graphic are not our inventions but are
merely our re-drawing of our photo of the plan of the Felsberg
("stone mountain") as prepared by the Verein Naturpark Bergstrasse -
Odenwald and open for inspection to every visitor to this popular
site, which attracts many thousands of visitors annually.

The ancient pathways on this steep hill also form at least one human
figure, if not two. The hill is so steep that there are not that
many alternative tracks, so any track through these stones now is as
good as that used 5000+ years ago. There are few alternatives.

Many gigantic immovable stones or rock formations still on the hill
have also been sculpted to represent a certain portion of the
heavens. Indeed, the Felsenmeer is unique for having over 300 stones
which have been recognized by experts as having been "worked" by
human hand but which the archaeologists – through uncritical and
gullible analysis - have erroneously placed in the Roman period,
thinking the stones were left in place due to an error in the stone
or faulty workmanship on them. That would be a strange world record -
over 300 gigantic stones partially worked by hand and left for
faulty workmanship on one and the same hill - in Germany, the land
of craftsmanship? Impossible.

There may be a couple of stones there from the Roman period (one
rounded column) but the rest are several thousand years older than
that and there is no fault or flaw on them. Rather, the ancients
sculpted these stones into various forms corresponding to the stars
and constellations of the heavens and left them in situ (in place
where they stood) for later generations to appreciate. Indeed, the
so-called "Altar Stone" is a calendric stone with notches for
counting.

saulheim3.gif and saulheim4.gif

Der Lange Stein [The Long Stone] of Obersaulheim [Upper Saulheim] of
Saulheim marks Gemini in the German geodetic survey system. The
theme of Gemini is represented in various ways on the megalith. To
the left of Saulheim3.gif, a phallic intepretation for the fertility
aspect of Gemini as the "Twins" is possible. To the right, the large
sculpted mother and child has been confirmed by a later
Christianized insert (small box) having exactly the same motive of
Madonna and Child. Whoever added this insert knew the significance
of the original stone carvings.

The megalith of Saulheim is shown from all four sides, with the two
sides shown at Saulheim4.gif perhaps showing figures marking the
neighboring constellations of Orion, and Cancer and Hydra. The stone
is so weatherworn that this is by no means certain and the figures
are surely not very clear.

In spite of the fact that the megalith of Saulheim is of prodigious
size and about twice the height of a man, the material of the stone
is not local, so that again this enormous and hardy stone was
intentionally brought by the ancients from elsewhere and placed here
for astronomical geodetic purposes. It was meant to survive.

carved on it (it may be a lynx), surely marking this area of the
sky. The other double figures found on that stone, not drawn here,
may mark the stars below Ursa Major just above the Lynx or Gemini
below.

surely sharper-edged at the top before being struck by lightning and
thus made shorter - has a "dagger" shape, corresponding to the
dagger placed at this position of the sky at Stonehenge, for
example. The stone has the same shape given to these stars by the
modern astronomy program Starry Night Pro.

kassel1.gif

The name of the city of Kassel is like the German term Kessel
("pot"). Kassel marks the "cup" of Ursa Major, the Big Dipper. The
modern monument of Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel was built on the site of
the previous convent Kloster Weißenstein [white stone] erected
nearly 900 years ago at the location of a white quartz cliff-stone,
then a prominent landmark, which we think marked one of the stars of
Ursa Major. Michael Herwig writes that the "Ley Line" running from
Wilhelmshöhe down the mountain – the longest such inner city line in
Europe – today points directly to the Spring sunset on April 4. The
location of Weißenstein was called Ditmelle in ancient days, which
could easily have been "the Mill" [of Heaven]. Latvian kauss-ulis
means "dipper", the probable origin of "Kassel", which is said to
stem from Chassella allegedly from Latin meaning "castle".

It is speculatively possible to identify several megalithic sites
close to and southwest of Kassel which may have marked stars of the
Big Dipper, but this is still tentative. The Riesenstein [giant
megalith] is found southwest of Kassel near Züschen and Altendorf
and may represent the shape of Ursa Major. The Hünstein of Baunatal
Großenritte appears to have an owl marked on it and we know from
other stones that the owl was often affiliated with Ursa Major. The
Wodanstein [Odin's Stone] of Gudensberg-Maden may have the stars of
Ursa Major carved on it. The dolmen between Lohne and Züschen or the
large megalith – also called Riesenstein – near Ellenberg, east of
Gudensberg, may also be a star of Ursa Major.

These sites will ultimately have to be examined in greater detail to
be sure as to just which locations marked which stars in Ursa Major.

The key to these megaliths is the Wodanstein [Odin's Stone].
According to the Edda, the Norse epic, Odin had a battle axe [we
claim this is Ursa Minor] and we claim that it was this "Njord" [in
e.g. ancient Spanish sailing sources Nortes is "Ursa Minor"] who
cleaved Odin's gates [of heaven]. This Wodanstein was earlier
called "the long stone of Madin" (or Maden) and is made of
quartzite – a material not found in the immediate region, so that
we know this megalith was placed here intentionally by the ancient
megalithic astronomers for geodetic reasons – perhaps the quarzite
came from Kassel's Wilhelmshöhe.

Grossenrode (Großenrode) may have uncovered an earthwork in the
shape of a battle axe – so we allege – and this region was unusually
rich in finds of ancient work axes, perhaps as offerings?

The city of Northeim and the town of Nörten-Hardenberg also point in
their names to Ursa Minor - called Nortes by Spanish navigators.

LexiLine Journal #126 - 2003 : Kyffhäuser Cassiopeia Nebra Solar Eclipse

Welcome!

.

The nebra.gif - previously uploaded and in our decipherment showing
the Nebra Disc with an eclipse from March 23, 2340 BC marked on it -
stems from Nebra, Germany near Kyffhäuser, where a modern monument
now stands on older foundations.

Kyffhäuser marks Cassiopeia. The sites of Kyffhäuser and Nebra are
just above the German town of "Andisleben" (Andis-Leben), a namesake
of this author's first name Andis. The interesting confluence of
names is that "Jostandis" (Jost-Andis) in Lithuanian is in fact the
name for Cassiopeia, meaning "belt" or "crown" of heaven. In fact,
the star beta-Cassiopeia, the upper right-hand corner of this "belt"
or "crown" is called Caph, Chaph or Kaff in Arabic, suggesting an
original relation with the German name Kyff as in Kyff-Häuser. See
in this regard, Richard Hinckley Allen, Star Names, page 146.

It should also be noted that in Germanic legend, the ravens of Wotan
(Odin) flew around the mountain of Kyffhäuser. We see a black bird
pictured above Cassiopeia at Hierakonpolis on the Naqada
astronomical Wall Painting – as we have deciphered it. Accordingly,
this is another indication that Kyffhäuser marked Cassiopeia.

showing the back stones viewed from the Southwest.

Note that the backs of the stones are carved as one would see the
constellations looking from the northeast or front of the stones.
This puts the constellations furthest from the pole at the top of
the megaliths and those closest to the pole closer to the ground,
exactly opposite of what one would normally expect. This of course
initially rendered the decipherment somewhat more difficult than it
should have been.

The back of Megalith 2 shows Aquila as bird of some kind, plus Lyra
and Draco.

The back of Megalith 3 shows the star Enif as a dog - Enif is the
same as Egytpian Anubis (Enif=Anub). We find Enif marked on the rock
drawings of Tanum as well, marking the Winter Solstice ca. 3117 BC.
Below the dog is a bird as Cygnus.

The figure at the back of Megalith 4 was particularly troublesome at
the beginning, since I took this to be the projection of the Milky
Way at Cepheus, expecting the
constellations closest the pole to be at the top. As it turned out,
the human head which is clearly visilb there marks the Great Square
of Pegasus and the hat above that is the Circlet of Pisces, a
lozenge-shaped group of stars formed by beta, gamma, kappa, lambda,
iota and theta. A salamander or lizard-like animal is then shown
below Pegasus as Lacerta. Cepheus is then potentially marked at the
bottom of this stone, though I could not identify anything there.

The back of Megalith 5 is marked by carvings of various animals,
with sheep at the top to represent Aries and an antlered animal as
Andromeda.

Hydra marked the Summer Solstice ca. 3117 BC and I think that these

in carving the megaliths.

The lady pictured in
externsteine.gif
referred to in the previous newsletter
reminds very much in style of the lady pictured at Creevykeel in
Ireland (especially the animal pelt fur thrown over her shoulder,
just as at Creevykeel), and Creevykeel is acknowledged by mainstream
archaeologists to be one of the oldest sites in Ireland, surely
dating to ca. 3000 BC at least. The large carvings at the
Externsteine will stem from about the same megalithic period.

(I do not refer here to the one quite modern carving on one of the
stones, which must derive from the turn of the millennium after 1
BC).

LexiLine Journal #112 - 2003 : Externsteine Extern Stones North Celestial Pole Megaliths Germany

Welcome!

.

As a logical consequence of my map of the ancient geodetic survey of
Germany, the famed Externsteine in Germany near Detmold represent
the North Celestial Pole, i.e. the Pole Star in the ancient German
astronomical survey.

The name of the Externsteine has correctly been said by some to
derive from the German word "Stern" meaning "star" so that
Externsteine is simply a small change from Sternsteine, meaning "the
Star Stones" which indeed they are, being the most amazing megaliths
in all of Europe - just in terms of their sheer size.

Compare
eXternsteine and
Sternsteine (Star Stones) for the similarity of the two terms.

These ancient Star Stones are of a particular kind of natural
sandstone which the ancients then carved to suit their purposes at
the site where they stand. It is very clear that the entire
sandstone cliff must have been carved - including removal of
inbetween sections - to make individual figures, a gigantic task.

The tallest of these stones is 38 meters (some write 37.5 meters),
or if you will over 100 feet tall. The stones are truly gigantic
stones, MEGALITHS, in every sense of the word.

I will soon upload drawings showing which stars these ancient stones
represent and from what time period.

Wildeshausen - which together mark the largest compact megalithic
region of Germany.

These sites represent the stellar constellations of Ophiuchus and
Serpens (Serpens Caput and Serpens Cauda) in the astronomical
geodetic system of Neolithic Germany.

This is similar to what we already found in the British Isles, where
sites having to do with Ophiuchus and Serpens were given special
attention for the reason that the line along Serpens Caput marked
the Autumn Equinox in ca. 3117 BC and because the serpent's head
marks the point on this line which is halfway up the heavens from
the equator to the North Pole.

The Visbek megalithic sites are a major intersection for survey
lines, with the southwest line heading toward Weris in Belgium and
the northeast line heading toward megalithic sites in Sweden.

LexiLine Journal #106 - 2003 : Nebra Astronomical Sky Disk Germany

Welcome!

.

I have uploaded

nebra.gif
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/LexiLine/files/Germany/
to our folder on Germany at

I deciphered this disc last year but they have since found out that
the disc was discovered in Nebra - north of a town in Germany
bearing my name (Andisleben) and not Sangershausen, so I have
changed the name of the old file to nebra.gif and also
removed "Ancient Germany" from the Planispheres folder since we also
have a separate folder for Germany's megalithic sites.

Let me say that what the people responsible for this disk have been
writing and saying about it in the news media is wrong, alleging it
to be ca. 1800-1600 BC - no, the correct date is EXACTLY 23 March,
2340 BC. Some astronomer in Germany has even been alleging it is
simply a picture of the autumn heavens - which is absolute nonsense -
and the archaeologists have also been writing all kinds of
erroneous conjecture. No wonder they never make progress in this
field.

[Update: although I remain convinced that the Nebra Disk pictures an eclipse, contrary to mainstream opinion, I have for the time being accepted the date of 1800-1600 BC, based on the date of other artifacts found with the Nebra Disk - there is another significant eclipse which comes into question during this period - but a date of ca. 2430 BC (see Kak at that link) is not out of the question....]

[Update: my completely revised and updated decipherment of the Nebra Disk was published in Efodon-Synesis, Issue 2, March/April 2005, Volume 12, No. 68. and I have commented on erroneous mainstream ideas at my Ancient World Blog and Kaulinsium]

I have also uploaded
osterode.tif and rhineman.tif
to the Germany folder, taking them out of the now deleted Ancient
Germany folder.

LexiLine Journal #105 - 2003 : Blankensee Lübeck (South) Scutum Germany Megaliths

Welcome!

I have added

waldhusen1.gif

a megalithic site north of the city of Lübeck in Germany

whose stones as I have deciphered to represent Sagittarius
in the German geodetic survey my astronomy ca. 3117 BC.

LexiLine Journal #103 - 2003 : Updated Germany Map of Deciphered Megaliths

Welcome!

.

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/LexiLine/files/
To our files in the folder on Germany at

I have uploaded an updated map of deciphered megalithic sites for
Germany
as

germany1.gif - in color, larger file
and
germany.gif - grey scale, smaller file
[update 2006 - the map has been replaced at that site by germany3.gif and will soon be replaced by germany4.gif]

Here is a LexiLine tip: IF YAHOO squeezes the picture so that the
words are not clear, you can increase the size of the onscreen
picture displayed and reduce the squeezing by right-clicking your
mouse in the grey area at the top of Internet Explorer and
temporarily removing some of the horizontal symbol menu lines e.g.
the one for URL adresses - but do NOT remove the standard symbols.
For each line removed, the picture will expand in size and clarity.

I also have to do this to see these particular maps of Germany
clearly on Yahoo, and I also then temporarily remove e.g. the Google
Toolbar....

LexiLine Journal #102 - 2003 : Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Germany Megaliths Deciphered as Astronomy Cygnus Aquila Lyra Sagitta Vulpecula Delphinus

Welcome!

.

To our files at
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/LexiLine/files/
in the folder for Germany I have added

mecklenburg.gif

which is a decipherment of the megalithic sites of Mecklenburg-
Vorpommern (northeast Germany on the the Baltic Sea), showing them
to mark the stars of Cygnus, Lyra, Aquila, Sagitta, Vulpecula and
Delphinus [although of course the ancients would not necessarily have viewed those stars in the same organizational way as we do today].

Those areas which Schuldt (see below) had marked as
having high concentrations of megaliths mark the major stars of
Cygnus (1st-8th) with the 9th concentrated area marking Lyra.

One of the most sensible works on the megaliths, although I by no
means agree with all that is written there, is by Cornelius Holtorf,
whose Ph.D. dissertation is available online as a CD-ROM under the
title Monuments of the Past: An hypermedia exploration of the
megaliths. See
http://citdpress.utsc.utoronto.ca/holtorf/index.html

Holtorf's map of the megaliths of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany,
as based on a map of the concentration of megalith sites there by
Ewald Shuldt, permits us to produce a "smoking gun" of proof for the
ancient sites of Germany as marking stars of the heavens. This proof
is similar, for example, to the map made by Aubrey Burl of Beaghmore and the surrounding sites which permitted us to decipher those sites
as specific stars of the heavens in Scorpio, Ophiuchus and Serpens
Caput.

Holtorf also quotes Schuldt as writing that the megalithic
structures in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern were all built in a very short
time period in the Neolithic era and, similarly quotes Kieling as
writing that that this may have been in the space of only a few
generations.

This confirms our view that the megaliths were built in a short
period of time for a specific purpose – a purpose which we have
identifed as geodetic astronomy, i.e. the first survey of the Earth
by the stars of the heavens.

LexiLine Journal #101 - 2003 : Ancient New Year Beginnings - Solstices vs. Equinoxes - Precession - 684-Year Cycle

Welcome!

.

Happy New Year !

One of our members, ihfrank26
[thank you ! - your e-mail led to a major new discovery presented
at the end of this e-mail]
sent me an e-mail challenging my conclusion that the original
calendric "new year" began with the Winter Solstice. He thought that
the original ancient new year would have begun with Spring, when
everything is renewed. I disagree, and here is the logic of my
thinking - leading to a new discovery:

The determination that the Sun has reached its most southerly point -
where it sort of "sits" for three days - and then starts to return
northward, is a simple matter of observation and was surely known to
ancient man thousands of years before any specific solar
calendration began.

In contrast, the determination of the Equinoxes requires some
sophisticated astronomy and clocks to determine exactly WHEN the day
and the night are equally long - and this equality of day and night
twice a year is not a good logical starting point for the year.

What about the argument of renewal? Fine, so when does Spring begin
if we do not use astronomy? When the first daffodils and crocuses
appear? the first tulips? the first buds on the vine? or the tree?
which tree? when the groundhog sees his shadow?

All of these things of renewal do not begin all at once. Worse,
nature can be fooled. We had a very mild winter here in December in
Germany the past year and even had a few roses blooming in our
garden right up to the new year and various plants budding out of
season. But this would hardly suffice to start Spring.

Hence, as logical as might initially appear, the idea of "renewal"
as marking the start of the new year is simply too inexact and
subject to the vagaries of weather in any given year.

As I have already noted in previous letters and as you can see from
the drawing in our files, I discovered that the so-called Cave of
the Dead Man (the year by-gone) at Lascaux marks the WINTER
SOLSTICE, marking the Pleiades at this point in ca. the year 9000 BC
as the start of the New Year. Indeed, if we presume that my
discovered date of December 25, 3117 BC is the start of all modern
calendars (Hebrew, Maya, Chinese, Hindu) and that the major cycle of
calendration was 684 years (2 x 18 (Saros) x 19 (Metonic) cycles)
then the major calendric points back in pre-historical time would be
as follows (going back by 684-year periods):

0. December 25, 3117 BC. Jupiter at Algiedi in Capricorn. Start of
modern calendration.
(all of the dates below are also December 25)

1. 3801 BC or -3800 by astronomy. I have long alleged that the Maya
calendar is based on a cycle of 7600 years. See
http://www.lexiline.com/lexiline/lexi75.htm

2. 4485 or -4484 by astronomy - It is at this time that the North
Ecliptic Pole, the North Celestial Pole and the North Galactic Pole
(as also the South Ecliptic Pole, South Celestial Pole, and South
Galactic Pole) are all in a straight line on the line of the
solstices (according to Starry Night Pro - see StarryNight.com about
this astronomy program). This line-up occurs only every 12960 years,
i.e. at one-half of the round of precession which is 25920 years.
Hence the previous such occurrence was 17445 BC viz. -17444 by
astronomy. It is impossible in my view that this rare confluence of
a straight line marking the major parameters of heaven occurs by
chance at this 684-year interval, so that the ancients must have
been aware of this long before modern calendars came into existence.

3. 5169 BC or -5168 by astronomy. Jupiter at Algiedi in Capricorn.

4. 5853 BC or -5852 by astronomy.

5. 6537 BC or -6536 by astronomy.

6. 7221 BC or -7220 by astronomy. Jupiter at Algiedi in Capricorn.

7. 7905 BC or -7904 by astronomy.

8. 8589 BC or -8588 by astronomy.

9. 9273 BC or -9272 by astronomy. Jupiter at Algiedi in Capricorn.
This is also then the exact date marked by the bird on a pole at
Lascaux as signifying the Pleiades at the Winter Solstice. The
reason for this symbol at Lascaux is clear when we examine the
picture formed by the stars - THIS is the new discovery - and I am
uploading this discovery to our Files - Ancient Planispheres -
Lascaux at

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/LexiLine/files/France/Lascaux/

as the file
lascaux2.gif

In that graphic, we can see WHY the ancients at Lascaux symbolized
this part of the sky as a bird on a pole (leg) - for this is exactly
the picture formed by the brightest stars in the sky at the Winter
Solstice in ca. 9273 BC.

And so, that is why I think the original ancient New Year began with
the Winter Solstice. There may be calendric records older than
Lascaux - but we have not yet discovered them yet.
