LexiLine Journal #180 - 2003 : Brittany Finistère Kerloas Plouarzel Saint-Renan End Stars of Scorpio France Megalithic Decipherment

Welcome!

To the France directory of our LexiLine files at

I have uploaded the file

kerloas.gif

which in the geodetic survey of France marks the end stars of
Scorpio on the Menhir of Kerloas at Plouarzel west of Saint-Renan.
Perhaps KER-LOAS is linguistically related to the name of the star
LESath in Scorpio which marks the "sting". Speculatively, the place
name PLOU-AR-ZEL may be related to the term SHAULA (as ZEL), which
is the star lambda in Scorpio meaning "the sting where it lies".

The Kerloas menhir is one of the two largest in Brittany (the other
is Dol de Bretagne, i.e. Champ Dolent) both being between 9 and 10
meters in heigth, depending on the source. It is in any case one of
the tallest menhirs in France. Note that the sting in the United
Kingdom geodetic survey was also marked by an extremely tall
megalith.
